Health & Safety Checks | October 7-18

Housing and Residence Life staff will begin routine Health and Safety Checks on Wednesday, October 7, and all inspections will be completed by Sunday, October 18. During these checks, Resident Assistants (RAs) and staff will:

• Inspect safety equipment.

• Check for health and safety concerns.

• Verify that residents are living in their assigned spaces.

• Confirm that vacant spaces are clean and ready for future assignments.

• Leave documentation if any policy violations are found.

Holiday Decorating Guidelines

Most of us love fall and decorating for the season. Here are the rules to follow:

• Real Pumpkins

  • Apartment residents may place real pumpkins outside of their door.

  • Residence hall students may not put pumpkins outside of their doors.

  • Once pumpkins begin to go bad please dispose of immediately in the nearest dumpster.

  • Also please be kind and do not smash pumpkins belonging to other residents.

• Window decorations may not include profanity, illicit illegal actions, contain threatening language, prevent the opening or closing of a window, or be flammable.

• Apartment or suite numbers may not be blocked or covered by wreaths, door coverings, lights or any other decorative element.

• Peepholes may not be covered.

• Fire protections and/or emergency equipment may not be covered or altered by exterior decorations.

• Holiday or decorative lights may be used, with the following stipulations:

• Lights may not be strung under windows or doors.

• Only exterior outlets may be used for outside lights.

• Lights must be UL approved for outside usage, and the label denoting such use must remain on the light strand.

• Lights may not be strung across areas where people walk (sidewalks, balconies, stairwells, etc).

POV: You report the washer as broken

The washer: "I am carrying 47 pounds of hoodies, blankets, towels, and emotional baggage."

Fun fact: Out of all laundry room service requests received so far, only TWO were actual machine issues.

Everything else was caused by overloaded washers and dryers. 

Your clothes deserve personal space. Give them some.

One spider = a spider. An infestation = a different conversation. 

Friendly reminder: if your work order says, "There's a spider in my room," or "A wasp was outside my apartment," maintenance is not showing up with an Avengers-level response team.

Tip: look up the definition of infestation before proclaiming one has invaded your room.
