2027 Homecoming Court Timeline

  • August 17th: First day of classes
  • September 28-October 16: Nominations open
  • October 21: Contact eligible nominees to accept or decline their nomination
  • October 26: Solidify nominee list
  • October 28-November 4: First round voting
  • November 5/6: Solidify finalists
  • November 16-20: Headshots and media
  • January 18: Finalist Interviews
  • February 1-5: Final voting
  • February 6: Homecoming Basketball Game/Coronation

Homecoming Court Eligibility Requirements

  • Eligible candidates must be current USI students with 60 or more completed credit hours.
  • Eligible candidates must possess a cumulative GPA of at least 2.6.
  • Eligible candidates must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Eligible candidates cannot have been on Homecoming Court at USI previously.

Characteristics of a Court Nominee

Nominees to USI Homecoming Court should exemplify leadership qualities, USI spirit, integrity and achievement through contributions and involvement on campus and in the community.

Following a student's nomination, their eligibility will be verified by the Center for Campus Life prior to being invited to complete the written application.

Court Selection Process

  1. Nomination of students by students, faculty, staff or student organizations.

  2. Nominated students will be contacted to accept or decline their nomination and checked for eligibility.

  3. Accepted nominees move into the first round of student voting.

  4. The top twelve (12) students are selected to Homecoming Court.

  5. Each of the 12 members of the Court will participate in interviews scored by a panel of judges made up of USI faculty and staff. (Interview scores contribute to 40% of the candidates overall score).

  6. During Homecoming Week, each of the 12 members of the Court will have the opportunity to gain participation points by attending or being involved in specific events. (Participation points contribute to 10% of the candidates overall score).

  7. Ahead of coronation, voting on each candidate will be open to the student body for one week. (The results of the vote will contribute to 50% of the candidates overall score). 

  8. The final scores are tallied, and the highest scores of the men and women will determine the 2 candidates that are crowned Homecoming King and Queen.
