Facilities & Administrative Costs Rate: USI has a Facilities & Administrative Costs (F&A) rate (also known as Indirect Cost) for use on grants, contracts and other agreements with the Federal Government (negotiated with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services).

  • USI's on-campus F&A rate is 47% of modified total direct costs (MTDC). Modified total direct costs consist of all direct salaries and wages, applicable fringe benefits, materials and supplies, services, travel, and up to the first $25,000 of each subaward (regardless of the period of performance of the subawards under the award).

  • Fringe Rates: The fringe benefits rate for faculty summer projects is 7.65%. The fringe rates vary for faculty and staff with 12-month appointments. The fringe benefit rate for student employees, when enrolled in classes, is zero.
